1. Where do I start?

If you are an artist/musician you can start by signing up, filling in a few details about yourself and start uploading your own songs etc in mp3 format.

Visitors to the site will then be able to view your songs by clicking on a particular Category to which your song belongs, and listen to your song in the streaming player provided on jhankarBeats.

Please ensure you have a blurb or something about yourself so that visitors can know you and appreciate your music better. In short, you can write anything to market yourself properly.

2. What about me, since I am not an artist?

You are utterly precious. You are the music lover for whom the artists produce music.You can certainly rate any song and provide feedback/comments on any song that you like. As of the Alpha release, we allow anyone to rate and provide feedback on songs. So please do not take undue advantage of this feature by providing scathing remarks if you don't approve of a particular artist or a song. Remember that whoever the artist, whatever the composition a lot of effort has gone into its making. So spare a thought for all the effort, be critical but please be fair and patient. Otherwise we might be forced to ban the particular visitor or even ban IP addresses as an extreme step.

3. What about copyright issues?

You as the artist hold all copyrights for the music content. Though the jhankarBeats team does not accept liability for the content uploaded processes will soon be in place to ensure that all artist rights are completely protected within and outside India in the right legal manner. We expect to have this in place for our Beta release.

4. What type of songs can I upload?

Any song which you have produced and for which you can hold the copyright. It could be English, Hindi, Bengali, Tamil or any Indian language. jhankarBeats largely caters to Indian audiences, artists of Indian origin so it may be worthwhile to keep that in mind.

5. What does uploading on jhankarBeats buy the artist?

A global platform. A global audience. A global feedback system. We have tie-ups with music/art/ad directors and producers across the globe. A commercial requiring an Indian musical backdrop would result in the director contacting a desired artist directly on jhankarBeats. Thus a seamless, free and open network is created between commercial houses, directors and local budding artists who may have little resources in terms of exposure and marketing themselves to the world at large. For example, some may not be able to market themselves even in their local markets, may not have the resources to release their own CD album and market it. Such artists can benefit from uploading their music on JB.

6. I can sing, but do not know how good I am. Should I still upload my song?

Yes you should. That is why there is a rating and feedback system in place. If you don't find an encouraging response to your voice/song etc. maybe it is time for you to get back to the basics, to the drawing board and check on what needs to be done. The Indian music space is certainly very competitive, very demanding and challenging. A lot of people who thought they sing well may not make it in the real world. At the same time, jhankarBeats should help promote people who may have mistakenly assumed they cannot sing well, while they would have had a wonderful voice to begin with.
